Easy Apple Pie (Eastern European Style)

This time my friend and I decided to make an apple pie (thank you, Ira). We found a recipe that seemed to be very easy, unusual and healthy. You don't need to make dough to prepare the pie. Isn't it unusual?
We adopted the recipe from http://saechka.ru.
You don't need many ingredients to prepare the pie. Try and you'll be surprised by the result :).

Inspirational Note on health benefits...

In this section we are going to talk about the health benefits of the main ingredient apples. Let's see what The Condensed Encyclopedia of Healing Foods (by Michael T. Murray, Joseph Pizzorno, Lara Pizzorno) says about it.
According to it “In an analysis of more than eighty-five studies, apple consumption was shown to be consistently associated with a reduced risk of heart disease, cancer, asthma, and type 2 diabetes compared to other fruits and vegetables… Apples are also very high in pectin, a soluble fiber that has been shown to exert a number of beneficial effects. Because it is a gel-forming fiber, pectin can lower cholesterol levels as well as improve the intestinal muscle’s ability to push waste through the gastrointestinal  tract.”(Read more...)
Now if you want to cook this healthy pie, let's get started!

Preparation: 15-20 min.
Cooking time: 45-50 min.
Serves: 8-10.

We will need:
Apples: 800 gr
Flour: 160 gr (one 250 ml glass)
Sugar: 120 gr (about half of 250ml glass)
Semolina: 100 gr (about half of 250 ml glass)
Butter (from the freezer): 129 - 150 gr
Vanilla sugar: 2tsp
Baking powder: 1 tsp.

So let's get started... First, we will prepare the dry mixture.
Optional: sieve the flour into a bowl. It will enrich it with oxygen.
Add baking powder, semolina, sugar and vanilla sugar mixing them thoroughly.

Wash apples, cut them into quarters and remove the core.
Grate them.

For the next step we will need a baking dish. I used a glass one (27cm x 17cm).
First, lightly oil the baking dish.
Then we should arrange the dry mixture and apples in layers. Start with the dry mixture and finish with it.
I had five layers (3 dry mixture layers and 2 apple layers).
Then grate butter from the freezer on the top of the pie.

Bake the pie in preheated oven at 180 degrees C for 45-50 min.

Once the pie is done baking, remove it from the oven. Let the pie cool to room temperature before slicing.

ENJOY!
